Falcon Field shut down

With all aircraft ordered grounded by the Federal Aviation Administration in light of Tuesday's terrorist attacks, there wasn't much to be done at Falcon Field in Peachtree City.

Only one aircraft from out of town was stuck at Falcon Field Tuesday morning, said airport manager Jim Savage. That aircraft is based out of the nearby DeKalb-Peachtree Airport.

The word from the FAA was that the grounding order would last indefinitely, he added.

"They don't want to go beyond that because, who knows?" Savage said.

Savage said in the short time after the attacks hit the media, the number of aircraft flying in the metro Atlanta area shrank to about 16. The normal amount of aircraft nears 100 generally, he said.

"I'd guess there are probably none out there now," Savage said after 1:30 p.m.

"We'll just have to sit and wait and see what happens."
