Grace Evangelical focuses on Great Commission
By CAROLYN CARY
The Grace Evangelical Church decided to make new use out of its family life center and many of its 330 members fell-to and brought about the transformation. Renovations for the new worship center began the first of June under the supervision of member Jeff Brown, a local architect. The space now houses a new stage, sound and lighting equipment, several walls have been put up, carpeting installed, and two class rooms were created. Each summer finds many members traveling in all directions and this past summer found college age students spending 10 weeks in Brazil in evangelism and outreach work, adults spent two weeks in Tanzania helping to build a training center, and some of the church's adults spent two weeks in Turkey ministering to international children. Grace Evangelical continues to support 21 career missions serving throughout the world. It has expanded its women's ministry with a mid-week Bible study on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and this summer a study called "relief from bondage" was taught. The church is a nondenominational, biblically rooted and culturally sensitive church that is moved by a "Great Commission vision." This vision equips and enables men, women and children to communicate Christ through significant relationships with God, one another as believers and with nonbelievers. It has grown from meeting in homes in 1973 to meeting at Woodward Academy, Hood Elementary School, the Tri-City Building and in 1987 purchased land on Flat Creek Trail for its permanent location. The congregation is served by the Rev. Bruce Hebel, senior pastor, the Rev. Mike Stachura, associate pastor, and Andrew Hill has just come on board as youth minister. Worship services are Sunday at 9:30 a.m., fellowship time is at 10:45 a.m. and education classes are at 11 a.m. AWANA for children is Sunday at 4 p.m., along with activities for the junior youth. Small care groups meet in homes throughout the week. Senior high girls meet at the church Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. and senior high boys meet Wednesdays at the same time. The church is at 164 Flat Creek Trail (across from Flat Creek Baptist Church) and can be reached at 770-487-0791.
