Plans to expand the Peachtree City Tennis Center will be presented to the city's Planning Commission at its regular meeting Monday night.

Also on the agenda are the expansion plans for Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a presentation of the plan compiled by a citizen task force studying the development of the West Village area.

Officials at the tennis center want to add six new covered courts, which would shelter players from the effects of inclement weather. The covered courts will allow for the recruitment of major college tennis tournaments to the center since the covered courts will allow the matches to continue even if it rains.

Also included is an office building that will provide extra space for tennis center staff. Currently, some tennis center employees work off-site at a nearby office leased by the center.

The office facility will also have room for another tenant such as a regional tennis organization.

The entire project is expected to cost around $2.5 million. It will be financed through the Georgia Municipal Association's Bricks and Mortar program, with payments coming from the recent increase in the city's hotel-motel tax.

The estimated annual payment on the facility is $238,000.

The expansion was planned all along as a third phase of the center, which is located off Ga. Highway 54 West near the intersection of Planterra Way.

The center is open to the public and was originally funded with impact fees issued by the city.
