Girl Scouts plan special recruitment

Girl Scouts will recruit girls in sixth through 12th grades at Rising Starr Middle School Thursday, 7 - 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Girls from all over Fayette County are welcome.

Girl Scouts learn about themselves and what it means to be female in today's world, said Ann Scott, director of Service Unit 620, which covers south Peachtree City, south Fayette and Brooks.

They learn about how to take care of themselves and others, about careers and options available to girls today, computers, cars, camping, animals, fashion, home improvement and maintenance, sports and other subjects, said Scott.

Scout leaders also are needed, she said. Volunteers must be women or men at least 18 years old. Every troop must have two unrelated adults, at least one of whom must be female.

A three-hour orientation course is provided free, and leaders must also complete several other three-hour training sessions during the first year with a troop.

Orientation sessions in September are scheduled Sept. 6, 10, 11, 12 and 18 at various locations.

For information on joining or leading a Girl Scout troop, phone Scott at 770-631-1493 or e-mail anngssud620@yahoo.com.

Service unit 620 is one of four service units in Fayette County and is part of the Pine Valley Council headquartered in Griffin.
