Ag Dept. fines pest control company officials

The Georgia Department of Agriculture has fined Edmundson Pest Services, Fayetteville, for violations of Georgia's Structural Pest Control Act at homes in Eagle's Nest subdivision in Douglas County.

In a settlement conference at the Agriculture Building, the company agreed to a fine of $100,000, with $75,000 of the fine suspended contingent on the company providing appropriate treatment to the houses involved at no cost to the homeowners.

James Edmundson, owner, and Gregory Tompkins, designated certified operator, were each fined $4,000 and must undergo 15 hours of wood-destroying organism training. As part of its investigation, the department discovered the company used insufficient chemicals, used chemicals at the wrong dilution, did not do proper backfill treatments, and had incomplete records as well as other violations.

"All houses in the subdivision will have to be retreated," said Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin.
