School board pursuing land purchase By MONROE
ROARK
The Fayette County Board of Education voted in a Friday special session to pursue a land purchase agreement for a proposed new elementary school, the third under the school bond recently approved. According to school system spokesman Melinda Berry-Dreisbach, the board has not actually bought the property yet, but has "agreed to pursue a contractual agreement for the purchase of" 58.889 acres from L.D. Stewart Business Company. The property is at the corner of Ga. Highway 74 and Dogwood Trail inside Tyrone and less than a mile north of the Kedron Village shopping center in northern Peachtree City. Other sites for new elementary schools include a tract on Lester Road on the western end of Fayetteville, where Cleveland Elementary is already under construction, and property on Ga. Highway 85 south at Lisbon Road, near Goza Road. The county's fourth high school is also in the works south of Fayetteville.
