Haverty's moving into Roberds site
By MONROE
ROARK
A Haverty's furniture store is expected to fill the vacant Roberds building on Ga. Highway 85 sometime in early 2002. An architect representing Haverty's appeared before the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday night, saying that an application had been filed for some changes to the front elevation of the site and a change in site lighting as well. He said after his presentation that Haverty's plans to open around Feb. 1. The Roberds department store chain filed for bankruptcy early last year and announced that all of its stores were closing, including nine in the metro Atlanta area. One of those was on Ga. Highway 85 between Banks Road and Fayette Pavilion. After a liquidation sale conducted by a separate company under orders from the bankruptcy court, the building was vacated in mid-September last year. Some minor changes to the front of the building have been suggested. The project was actually a discussion item on the P&Z agenda, but it should come up again within a month or two.
