County workers help fight AIDS

In the 20th year of the AIDS epidemic, Fulton County government employees are working to raise money to help prevent the disease and find a cure.

Led by the Human Services Department's Volunteer Fulton program, staff hopes to raise $10,000 for Atlanta's 11th annual AIDS Walk in October.

Countywide fund-raising will begin Sept. 7 with an indoor yard sale from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Government Center atrium, 141 Pryor St., SW, Atlanta. Radio DJ Emperor Searcy from HOT 97.5 FM will entertain shoppers.

The public is invited to find bargains, with all proceeds going to the AIDS Walk fund.

Other fund-raising activities will include dress down days, a bake sale, hotdog sale, and "Go Nuts for Donuts" sale with the help of Krispy Kreme.

Individual walkers will also collect contributions.

The county team's slogan is: "We walk because each step leads to a cure."

The message will appear on the team's t-shirts and publicity materials.

Oct. 14, Fulton County government employees will join other corporate, church and community organizations in the 2001 AIDS Walk, beginning and ending in Piedmont Park.
