SAT scores up overall, down in South Fulton By JOHN
THOMPSON
Fulton County school officials are rejoicing over the just-released Scholastic Achievement Test scores for their system. Fulton's system-wide average score is 1033, which is 13 points above the national average and 53 points above the state average. This year's results show a 12-point gain over 2000, marking the seventh consecutive year that the county's scores have increased. In the last five years, the scores have increased 24 points. "For most schools and systems, one-year score changes are not as significant as long-range trends," said testing coordinator Connie Maggert. "Considering that the percentage of participants has increased over the past five years, 24 points is a significant change." Locally, Creekside High School's scores decreased 11 points from 845 to 834 this year. Creekside's highest score in the last five years was a composite score of 900 in 1998. Tri-Cities High School students also saw their scores decrease this year. In 2000, the school scored 852, but dropped to 829 this year. The highest scores in the system were at Roswell, with a composite 1108, and Chattahoochee with a score of 1099.
