Hispanic Heritage month declared at PTC library

The Peachtree City Library will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.

Library staff are planning a number of activities for all ages, including Hispanics and non-Hispanics. Fayette County residents are invited to participate also.

A library spokesperson said the staff wants to encourage Hispanics in the community to sign up for library cards and to use the library's resources.

Hispanic Heritage Week was initiated by the U.S. Congress more than 20 years ago. It expanded to a month in 1989. The following historical events are commemorated during the period: Independence Day for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua Sept. 15; Independence Day for Mexico Sept. 16 and El Dia de la Raza Oct. 12.
