Jim Fulton, a long-standing member of Peachtree City's Development Authority, has issued his resignation effective Sept. 30.

Fulton, has been on the authority since 1975, easily making him the longest-serving current member. He said Thursday that he is resigning because he and his wife are moving outside the Peachtree City limits to a home in Fayette County, thereby making him ineligible for the position.

The new home has a bigger yard and an extra bedroom, which was a major consideration for the Fultons' grandchildren, he said. Their Peachtree City home has a much smaller yard "and that wasn't going to do for me or my wife," Fulton explained.

"Now we'll have a nice size yard and a long driveway for the kids to ride their bikes on," Fulton said.

He quickly added that he has no plans to leave the immediate area.

"If there's anything anybody needs or wants from me, I will be available," Fulton said.

The Development Authority oversees operations of the city's tennis center and amphitheater in addition to serving as a means to attract business and industry to Peachtree City.

Fulton's position doesn't expire until April 2005. Applications for the position are available at City Hall.

The unpaid position is available to residents who have lived in Peachtree City for at least six months. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.
