Rep. Collins honored by National Guard group U.S. Rep. Mac Collins has been awarded the distinguished Charles Dick Medal of Merit Award by the National Guard Association of the United States. The award, established in 1998, was presented at the NGAUS Annual Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. "I am very honored to receive this distinguished award. My time and experience in the National Guard was vital to my development as a young man," said Collins. "The lessons learned about honor, duty and country continue to guide me today as I represent the people of the 3rd District in the United States Congress," he added. The Charles Dick Medal of Merit is designed to recognize contributions to the National Guard by state and national elected officials. The Medal is named in honor of Maj. Gen. Charles Dick, president of the NGAUS from 1902-1909, a major general in the Ohio National Guard, a congressman and later a senator. Dick was responsible for the passage of the Dick Acts of 1903 and 1908 that established the foundation of the modern National Guard.
