County EMS names new med. advisor

Dr. James Robertson, director of emergency medicine at Fayette Community Hospital, has been named medical advisor for Fayette County's ambulance service.

The medical advisor works with Emergency Medical Technicians when drugs need to be administered and helps with other general advice during emergencies, said Capt. Pete Nelms, public information officer for the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

Conducting training classes to keep the EMTs current on new drugs and other developments also are part of the advisor's duties, Nelms said, and he also provides physicals for the medical workers.

The emergency medical services have always worked with local doctors in this capacity, Nelms said, adding that usually a new advisor is named very few years.
