Holly Grove cart path tunnel plan scrapped

Plans to build a cart path tunnel under the new extension to Holly Grove Church Road have been abandoned.

Several setbacks including a sewer line underneath the tunnel in the area, a high water table and poor soils were cited for the cancellation of the project. Instead, an at-grade cart path crossing will be built in the area.

In a report to City Council, City Engineer Troy Besseche said the project would be too costly to justify. He recommended the tunnel proposal be abandoned.

The original cost for the project was slated at $56,500. Only $750 of that has been spent with the contractor selected for the project.
