Rapson will run for full term on PTC Council By JOHN MUNFORD
Current Peachtree City Councilman Steve Rapson has announced his candidacy for the upcoming election. Rapson has said he will run for Post 3, the seat he currently holds. Rapson was selected to the seat by council in March after the resignation of longtime councilman Robert Brooks. Rapson was one of 14 candidates vying for the seat. Rapson currently serves in Fulton County's financial department, although he previously served as Peachtree City's finance director. It is that experience that makes him a solid candidate, Rapson says. "As the former financial services director for Peachtree City, I gained an internal knowledge of the challenges facing the various city departments," Rapson said. "I know Peachtree City: the internal processes, the senior management, the financial structure and day-to-day operations. I an not a politician and I have no hidden 'agenda'. I simply believe that I have the necessary sensitive and dynamic leadership to handle the complexities associated with governmental operations." Rapson, who has lived in Peachtree City for 11 years, is married to Kristi Rapson, director of the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater. He serves as treasurer of the Fayette County Special Olympics and is a board member of the Fayette County YMCA. Rapson is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. One of Rapson's goals is to establish "a level of citizen trust" in city government. "I know it may sound corny, but I truly believe that each individual resident deserves to be represented and I want to make sure the concerns of the average resident are heard." Rapson also said the city is entering a crucial time as the final development of the city takes place.
