Sheriff's Department busts two in-progress burglaries By JOHN
MUNFORD
Fayette County sheriff's deputies and detectives busted up two burglaries as they transpired during surveillance of the area late last week. Both burglary attempts were made at Cycle Specialties, said Lt. Mahlon Donald of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. A total of five suspects were arrested and more arrests are expected later, Donald said. The first burglary, late Friday night, involved two suspects attempting to make off with a four-wheeler they loaded into the back of a pickup, Donald said. One of the suspects spotted an officer and began to drive the truck away, almost hitting a deputy, Donald added. The truck eventually wrecked, forcing the suspect to flee. The area was surrounded and the suspect was eventually located, Donald added. Arrested were John Cagle Jr., 28, of Fayetteville and Gary Filla, 31, of Riverdale. They were charged with theft by taking, prowling, obstruction of a police officer and theft by receiving stolen property. Detectives discovered the truck was stolen also, Donald said. The second burglary attempt occurred early Sunday morning as an adult and two juveniles tried to break into Cycle Specialties, Donald said. A window to the building was broken and the suspects attempted to disable the alarm system, he added. Herman Fuller, 19, of Riverdale, was arrested at his apartment there after he was identified as participating in the scheme. He was charged with burglary. Two juveniles also were arrested and charged with burglary and obstruction of a police officer. The investigation into both burglaries is ongoing, Donald said.
