Second phase for Kedron Estates gets approval

The Peachtree City Planning Commission has approved the second phase of the Kedron Estates subdivision, which consists of just four homes.

Kedron Estates is located on Astoria Lane and is adjacent to the Kedron Hills subdivision.

Originally, Kedron Estates was proposed as one subdivision. However, Hyland Developers split the development in two after a controversy arose over whether the subdivision should be served by the city's sewer system.

The Fayette County Health Department contended that the original subdivision should be served by sewer since it was located within 500 feet of a city sewer line. But Jimmy Halligan of Hyland Developers said sewering the subdivision would be expensive.

The plans for the subdivision were redrawn, leaving 4.56 acres vacant to be developed later by Hyland. The proposal approved by the planning commission showed four one-acre lots.

In other business, the commission reviewed a concept plan for the second phase of the Wisdom Pointe retail center, which would be located on Ga. Highway 74 near Wisdom Road. The matter was tabled by the commission at the request of applicant John Barrow after some commissioners expressed concern when Barrow indicated the plan might change depending on what tenants are lined up.

The plan Barrow provided showed two restaurants in the front with a three story building in the rear for office and retail-oriented businesses. The center would consist of a fountain area.
