Raises part of WASA budget By JOHN MUNFORD
Peachtree City's Water and Sewer Authority has been presented a $4.98 million budget which represents only a 1.81-percent increase over this year's figures. While the authority took no action on the budget at a special called meeting Tuesday night, several budget items were discussed including a plan to revise the longevity bonuses given to employees at Christmas. Part of the reason for revising the plan is that currently employees with less than three years of experience receive no bonus, said General Manager Larry Turner. To remedy that, Turner recommended establishing a flat bonus of $250 for employees with less than three years of service. Turner's proposed changes would increase the longevity bonuses from $2,306 to $21,618. While the authority also offers annual merit pay increases, Turner said the longevity bonuses help also. "We have 30 employees, and we don't have any slouches," Turner said. "I think they all contribute equally." Turner noted that the authority has had trouble keeping sewer plant operators over the past few months but he feels the problem has been stabilized. Although authority members discussed several different ideas about the longevity bonus plan, they decided to contact Turner with their ideas and discuss the matter further at its next meeting.
