Coweta gets chamber support for SPLOST Chamber supports SPLOST tax The Coweta County Commission's efforts to get a special sales tax passed in September received an important endorsement late last week. The Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce announced that the organization is supporting passage of the special purpose local option sales tax Sept. 18. The action came at the Aug. 10 meeting of the chamber's Board of Directors, following a recommendation from the organization's Legislative Action Committee. In making the announcement, Rod Drake, chairman of the board, said, "Needed local improvement projects have been completed over the years as a result of the local option sales tax; however, there are many more important projects that must be accomplished in order for our governments to properly serve the needs of our citizens. The chamber feels strongly that passage of the special purpose local option sales tax will benefit the people of Coweta County." The 20-member Board of Directors is the policy-making body for the organization. The chamber is an association of businesses and professionals dedicated to promoting the local economy and enhancing the area's quality of life. The chamber will communicate its support to its members and encourage their support for passage. During Tuesday's County Commission meeting, the commission thanked the board for its support and for recognizing the importance of the vote.
