Councilman resigns after eight months

In less than a month, Senoia's City Council will be down to four members.

City Councilman Darren Ratajski announced his resignation from the council at the end of Monday night's meeting.

Ratajski said his last day as councilman will be Sept. 7, since he is moving out of the city limits.

He said his family was still looking at two homes, but neither were in the city limits. Since he won't be living in town, he cannot legally serve as a councilman.

"I do this with deep regret and remorse. It has been quite an honor for me to serve the city," he said.

Ratajski was elected last November and took office in January.

"I think the city is heading in the right direction," he said.

During his brief tenure, he was involved in one of the more bizarre zoning cases in recent Senoia history. In the spring, the city turned down developer Steve Enterkin's request to have his property rezoned and annexed into the city to develop a subdivision. The move stunned Mayor Joan Trammell and the issue eventually came back to the council, where Ratajski and Councilman Bob Hannah changed their votes and allowed the property to be annexed into the city.

Still, Ratajski said he had enjoyed his experience and wished nothing but the best for Senoia.

"May the Lord bless this city," he said.

Trammell said she was consulting with city attorney Drew Whalen about the resignation and would announce at the Aug. 20 meeting if a special election will be called.
