Pathway unveils Intranet at Avery Park

Pathway Communities announces the unveiling of an exclusive community Intranet at Avery Park.

In 1999, the company installed Atlanta's first community Intranet in SummerGrove at Newnan. Pathway Communities continues to build on Newnan's technology infrastructure with the Avery Park Intranet, which has been custom-designed to reflect the community's unique character.

"Absent from many of today's subdivisions is the sense of belonging and ownership individuals once felt for their home towns," says Dan Camp, vice president at Pathway Communities. "To address this lack of connectivity, we are creating specialized, community-wide Intranets at each of our new communities with customized sections for residents to form their own social or hobby groups, trade favorite recipes or chat with their neighbors online."

Kids have their own section devoted to the clubs they decide to establish, along with their own chat room. A community calendar provides updates relating to social or sports opportunities, and residents may search for new acquaintances who share anything from a home state to an alma mater to an interest in gardening. Every resident of Avery Park will enjoy access to this network.

"We are helping people meet their neighbors, plan social activities and just visit on the electronic version of the old front porch," Camp explains. "We know that technology isn't the only answer. For us, technology is a component of a larger effort to give people a real sense of place within the context of their new community."

Avery Park's unique technology component is complimented by a wide variety of home styles, unique community amenities and more than 30 percent open space and green belts, all in a setting reminiscent of the Newnan in the early 1900s.

Pathway's success with its technology initiatives at SummerGrove, which included ultra-fast Internet access through Newnan Utilities, structured wiring for every home and an interactive community Intranet, led to it winning a coveted Mark of Excellence Award from the Home Automation Association. SummerGrove has also been recognized by Builder Magazine and Southern Living for its unique approach to community technology.

Avery Park is located on Highway 29 in Newnan. The Information Center is open daily 11-6 and Sunday 1-6. For more information, visit the Avery Park Web site at www.averypark.com, or call 770-252-9100.
