Teachers to have local training facility

Fayette County teachers won't be racking up as many miles in the car in the coming years while furthering their own educations and keeping up with various certification requirements.

The West Georgia Educational Technology Training Center, headquartered at the State University of West Georgia, is setting up a remote training facility at the LaFayette Education Center in Fayetteville to allow local teachers the opportunity to continue their training without having to travel to the West Georgia campus in Carrollton.

A cooperative agreement with the center, approved by the Fayette County Board of Education at its July meeting, means that a computer lab facility will be set up at LaFayette, including up to 15 computers and other equipment needed for training. The ETTC will also provide an on-site instructor.

Specific courses will be negotiated each year and determined by the ETTC director and the county school system's staff development coordinator. Other educators can participate in the classes but priority will be given to those employed by the Fayette County Board of Education.
