Famous author is keystrokes away thanks to PTC Library

The Peachtree City Library is offering a chance to interact online with a famous author.

An online book discussion with Warren Adler, author of "The War of the Roses" and "Random Hearts," is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 16.

Participants are asked to e-mail their questions in advance and they will be posted along with Adler's responses by 7 p.m., said Jill Prouty, library technology and training manager.

In addition to "The War of the Roses" and "Random Hearts," both of which became major motion pictures, Adler's collection of short stories, "The Sunset Gang," was made into a trilogy on the Public Broadcasting System's American Playhouse, earning critical and popular success.

Adler's newest novel, "Mourning Glory," will be published by Kensington this month.

Adler is one of the few and perhaps the only novelist in the world who has had all his books digitized. He also has a line of print-on-demand books, making him unique among current authors.

Prouty said Adler's enthusiasm for technology made him "a perfect fit" for the first-ever Author Access event hosted by the library.

Participants can start submitting their questions for Adler immediately by going to www.peachtree-city.org/library and clicking on the link for Author Access. The cutoff date for questions will be three days before the discussion, Prouty noted.

"Our goal is to reach out to as many people as possible and share books," Prouty said.

The library recently began an online book club, where participants are mailed portions of books in a variety of genres to give them a taste of what's available at the library.
