New Fayette dance theater opening next week
By JOHN
THOMPSON
Fayette's dance enthusiasts will soon have another option to pursue their dancing dreams. Classical Dance Theatre is having a grand opening and open house Aug. 11 at its headquarters at 155 Bradford Square, Suite E in Fayetteville. Artistic director and owner Yasmine Hassam is offering training in ballet, modern, jazz and tap. Hassam spent many years training and dancing in New York with such prestigious organizations as the American Ballet Theatre. In New York, Hassam developed her Balanchine style of dancing and her Russian technique of classical ballet. She has toured throughout the world and has danced major roles choreographed by Balanchine. Hassam believes classical ballet training is the foundation of all other forms of dance and offers ballet classes for students starting at age 3 and going all the way to adult classes. Hassam stresses that you don't have to be interested in a dance career to derive benefits from her classes. "If dance is not studied for professional purposes, then it is a good and healthy exercise which promotes vital energy and improve the bodily appearance, both physically and esthetically," she said. Placement auditions for her classes are Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., but she encourages interested dancers to attend the open house and get a feel for what's involved in the classes.
