Water plant nears completion
By JOHN
THOMPSON
By late September, Senoia should have its water plant up and running. The water plant was taken out of commission several years ago by Tropical Storm Alberto, but City Administrator Leonard Thompson said workers are busy repairing and replacing pipes this week. Currently, the city is using about 220,000 gallons of water a day and the plant is permitted for drawing up to 300,000 gallons a day from Hutchinson Lake. Thompson said the city is working in getting the lakes permit increased up to 600,000 gallons a day and is also exploring existing wells in the city to provide future water use. City officials have determined a well on Pylant Street can provide 100,000 gallons a day and Thompson is hopeful two more wells in the city will add to the water capacity. The city is currently purchasing all of its water from Coweta County, but Thompson said the city's water bill from the county will dramatically lower when the water plant starts up its operation. "We'll just use the county for providing water to Couch's Hill, Emory Village and the Cumberland subdivision. That should solve some of the pressure problems we've been having in that area," he said.
