Schools set orientation schedules for students and parents Parents and students who want to meet their teachers and get a preview of the upcoming academic year before the first day of school will have an opportunity to do so during orientation scheduled Aug. 7-9. All of Fayette's elementary schools will have their orientations Aug. 8. Since there are no formal presentations scheduled for the event, parents and students can arrive at the schools any time between 3 and 6 p.m. Teachers will be on hand to meet their students and parents for the new academic year. Students can see their classrooms plus meet other classmates. Orientation is also a great time for parents to complete necessary forms for the school year as well as talk to their children's teachers, get information on school lunches and bus routes, and learn about volunteer opportunities. In addition, the schools will have spirit items for sale and Parent Teacher Organization representatives will be on hand to talk to parents about the benefits of membership and answer questions. Orientation dates and times for Fayette's middle and high schools vary. Like at the elementary level, parents and students can go to the schools any time during the scheduled time frame. Orientation at the high school level is mainly for students who are in transition from middle to high school and for new students who will be attending Fayette schools for the first time. At most of the middle and high school orientations, students and parents will be able to meet school administrators and staff members. Students also will receive information on clubs, extracurricular activities and athletic programs available at the schools. At the high school level, students will receive their class schedules for the fall semester and tours will be offered so that they can become familiar with where their classes will be, hopefully making the first day of school less hectic. Parents also will receive a wealth of important information at these orientations. They can sign up for PTO, get information on transportation and become informed about important dates such as the distribution of report cards and various meetings that take place throughout the year. The schedule for middle and high school orientations is listed below.
