Additions to Fayette County schools currently under construction won't hold up any of Fayette's school openings this year, said Fred Oliver, assistant superintendent of operations.

Three schools are under renovation, he said.

"The additions will not impede the opening of school," he said. "The additions to existing schools will open sometime in the next school year."

Bids were received in May for work on the Booth Middle School and clearing has been completed. Demolition has begun at Fayette Middle School and the foundation work is underway.

Grading, demolition, septic system and steel and roof deck are completed at Whitewater Middle School and exterior brickwork is nearing completion.

Clearing and grading for a new elementary school on Hiatt Road is expected to begin this month and clearing on a new elementary school on Ga. Highway 85 south is also expected to begin this month.
