Every Friday night in August and September. Free food, and live gospel groups!

By DR. KNOX HERNDON
Pastor

I don't know about you, but my wife, Dee, and I have a date every Friday night in Fayetteville.

We go out to eat and then to the $1 movie (reminds me of college and seminary days). I then pork out on the buttered popcorn.

Here is where I discovered a possible big-time flash point in our marriage. Dee likes regular popcorn and I like the gooey buttered variety. So now when I get into the popcorn line most of the people working behind the counter smile when I walk up because I order the popcorn buttered on one side and "layered." This is the "category" they have coined and reserved for me and Dee.

It means that they put a small amount of popcorn in the bottom of the bag, then shoot the butter to one side only, then more popcorn, then more butter on one side only until the bag is full. Of course, this little operation only costs $3.50 for a 15-cent bag of popcorn but to me, it's worth it. And, of course it helps the marriage tremendously, especially when it is supplied with the fourteen napkins you need with it to eat it!

Right away you are thinking that "if you go to the $1 movie, you will miss all the first run features." This would be true unless you get out of the "I have to see it first" category. If all the movies you ever see have already been out a while, then they are all new to you, aren't they? It's kinda like driving all used cars they are all new to you and you don't have all those high monthly payments, right?

Well, now you can change your Friday-night-at-the-movies routine. Every Friday night in August and September that's nine Friday nights you can have free food, kick back, and listen or sing along with live Gospel groups.

These groups are all from the south side of Atlanta and will be performing in our outdoors pavilion at the church in Senoia. One of the groups, Simply His, has a lead singer that sounds just like Elvis, for real!

Some of the groups will be performing with live instruments and some with background tapes. There will be at least four groups a night.

We will start around 6 p.m. and will fire up the hotdog and hamburger grill and fill your plate with good potato salad, a slaw or onion dawg, and maybe some baked beans and a drink. It doesn't get much better than that, unless of course you have it "layered and buttered on one side!" For the kids, there is a basketball and volleyball net and a nature trail to roam.

The food and evening is free but a voluntary love offering will be taken to cover expenses and to share with the various ministries represented by the Gospel groups. No reservations are necessary but the parking lot does fill up. Come early and get the best location to listen to the groups and be able to sit under one of the out door ceiling fans. Glory, what a time we will have!!
