PTC will fund off-duty personnel for local air show

To help with this year's Wings Over Dixie Air Show and Festival at Falcon Field, the Peachtree City Council has set aside more than $21,000 to pay off-duty police officers, firefighters and EMTs.

The air show's board requested the help so the public's safety can be protected and traffic can be handled appropriately.

Mayor Bob Lenox said the air show benefits Peachtree City and is worthy of the city's assistance. It showcases the airport and brings money into the city, he added.

City Manager Jim Basinger noted that the show is held on property owned by the city.

"There are legitimate concerns for safety on city property," said Councilman Steve Rapson.

The air show's proceeds benefit the Fayette Youth Protection Home and other charities through the Peachtree City Kiwanis Club. This year's show is scheduled for Sept. 8-9.
