Proposed law: No booze with nudes

Fulton County commissioners could vote in less than a month to prohibit alcoholic beverage sales at any adult entertainment businesses.

The commission conducted a public hearing Wednesday on the ordinance and heard a damning report from Chief of Police George Coleman on the correlation between crime and alcohol at the establishments.

Coleman said the Fulton County Police Department instituted an extensive operation in 1998 to combat vice in the Fulton Industrial Boulevard corridor.

The department had received numerous complaints from business owners who were near three adult entertainment establishments.

In its sweep, the department made 167 arrests and convicted all but one person. The overwhelming percentage of the crimes were sex related and the second highest percentage of crimes was drug related.

Coleman also showed the board a report of criminal incidents from the Coronet Club in north Fulton County, which does not sell alcohol.

The Coronet Club accounted for only 4 percent of the crime around adult entertainment businesses, while clubs that did sell alcohol represented 96 percent of the crime reports, he said.

Coleman also said the department has been doing surveillance at the clubs this year and has discovered no criminal activities at Coronet Club, but have made arrests at two of the Fulton Industrial clubs for masturbation for hire.

The ordinance as written would prohibit the consumption or sale of alcoholic beverages at any adult entertainment business.
