Sandy Creek names principal

School could gain FCHS students to ease overcrowding

The final principal vacancy in the Fayette County School System for the 2001-02 academic year was filled last week, as Roy Rabold was named to the top job at Sandy Creek High School.

The appointment of Rabold, an assistant principal at Sandy Creek for eight years, was officially approved by the Board of Education at its July 13 meeting. He was previously an assistant principal at McIntosh High School for five years.

He succeeds Dr. Charles Warr, who was named principal at Fayette County High School upon the retirement of Gary Phillips.

"I'm extremely excited about being the principal here," said Rabold. "I feel fortunate that I can add to the success of the school. I think it will be an easy transistion since I've been here for a while and everybody knows who I am. I'm looking forward to a great and successful year."

Sandy Creek is also on the lookout for some new students. As a way to relieve overcrowding at Fayette County High, the school system elected to give some students there the option of transferring to Sandy Creek, which is not at its full capacity, if they so choose.
