Fayette curches building Habitat home for physically challenged man For 20 years David Wolfork battled crime as a law enforcement officer in Griffin. Now he has a different daily battle, learning to live with multiple sclerosis, but a part of that struggle will be made a bit easier when he moves into a Habitat for Humanity House designed just for him and built through a cooperative effort of Fayette County churches. Wolfork, a native of Griffin, began his career with the Spalding County Sheriff's Department in 1977 and joined the Griffin Police in 1980. He remained with the police force as a sergeant until his health required a medical retirement five years ago. Every detail of his new home on Lakewood Drive in Griffin will be suited for him and his wheelchair. From the entry ramp to door widths to the kitchen counter height, the home will be accessible and handy. Wolfork plans to live in the three-bedroom home with his two sons, who are 18 and 19, and his daughter, 8. The Habitat home will be built by building supervisors and volunteers from area churches from July 28 - Aug. 4. Efforts are led by Doug Higgins from Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, Marla Brack from Providence United Methodist, Earl Johnson from North Fayette United Methodist and Gary Taylor. A special program called the Square Foot Ministry allows donors to each contribute a square foot in the home for $25.
