The Peachtree City Water and Sewer Authority will hold a public meeting Tuesday, July 22, to explain the environmental affects possible during the upcoming expansion of the sewer system.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall in council chambers.

The environmental information document compiled by a WASA consultant studied the potential environmental impacts of the expansion in 28 categories. Minor environmental impacts are expected in 15 of those categories while no impacts are expected for the other 13 categories, the report concluded.

The study considered environments such as wetlands, protected species, forest land, stormwater and others which could be disturbed by the expansion. Each affected category was rated on the projected size of impact, either minor, median, major or unknown.

Among the categories expected to have minor affects are wetlands, water supply, stormwater, solid wastes, protected species and aquatic life.

WASA General Manager Larry Turner said the meeting will include a brief overview of the expansion plans. The expansion includes:

Expansion of the Rockaway Wastewater Treatment Plant from 2 million gallons a day to 4 million;

Disposing of specially treated wastewater at golf courses for irrigation purposes;

Shutting down the Flat Creek treatment plant, but still discharging effluent into the stream through a pipe system; and

Relocating WASA's administrative offices from the Flat Creek plant to the Rockaway Plant.
