Forestry seedlings available
It's time to order seedlings from the Georgia Forestry Commission for planting this fall and winter. Application forms are available at commission offices. First come, first served. Several varieties are offered this year and many will sell out quickly, said a forestry spokesman. Seedlings are sold bare root. Improved loblolly, long leaf and Virginia pine species come in packages of 50, 500 and 1,000. Hardwood species come in packages of 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1,000, including bald cypress, dogwood, red cedar, persimmon, cherrybark oak, live oak, northern red oak, sawtooth oak, swamp chestnut oak, water oak and white oak. Also available is a package of 10 select dogwood seedlings, and a "wildlife pack" that includes 10 sawtooth oak, persimmon and crabapple, and 50 lespedeza seedlings.
