Traffic light relocation set for July 22
By JOHN
MUNFORD
The relocation of the Wynnmeade Parkway traffic light to MacDuff Parkway on Ga. Highway 54 is scheduled to be completed July 22 according to recent information provided to Peachtree City officials. Director of Developmental Services Jim Williams said Tuesday that the light was supposed to be moved July 17 but a few complications arose and the date was pushed back five days. However, that is the contracted date for the project to be completed, he noted. "Who knows?" Williams laughed, referring to the project's lengthy implementation time frame. The project, which is the responsibility of RAM Development, is several months overdue. The plans are to take down the light from Wynnmeade and re-install it at MacDuff in the same day, Williams noted. Originally, the light was supposed to be relocated to MacDuff Parkway before any of the developments there were allowed to open. But the Summit Apartments have opened up several buildings with approval from the city despite the absence of a light at MacDuff and Hwy. 54. The City Council recently agreed to allow Summit to open two more apartment buildings with the stipulation that no more will be allowed until the light is moved. "The Building Department has been ordered not to give anymore certificates of occupancy until the light has been moved," Williams said. Without the traffic light at MacDuff Parkway, it was difficult to turn left onto Hwy. 54 going towards Peachtree City during peak traffic hours. Motorists would instead turn right and enter the Wynnmeade entrance so they could turn around and use the light there to get eastbound access to Hwy. 54. Now, motorists on MacDuff can travel on a back road which gives access to Wynnmeade and the traffic light.
