Coweta's municipalities will finalize their proposed projects for a special purpose sales tax vote July 24.

Representatives of the municipalities showed up at the Coweta County Administrative Complex Tuesday morning for a meeting of the minds on the upcoming Sept. 18 vote.

County Administrator Theron Gay told the leaders that $35 million of the funds is earmarked for a new justice center.

Gay said the county had projected $88 million in funds generated over a five-year period with a 7.5 percent growth rate.

But if the county grows 11 percent a year, nearly $98 million would be generated.

After the justice center funds are allocated, the county would receive 67 percent of the remaining funds.

The county's municipalities would then share the remaining funds, with Newnan getting 25 percent of the funds.

Newnan Mayor Keith Brady said the city is still working on its list for submittal to the county.

Palmetto, which is partially in Coweta County, would receive between $347,000 and $409,000 based on the growth rate.

Palmetto City Administrator Bill Shell said the funds would be used for street and sewer system improvements.

Gay asked all the cities to have their lists ready by the July 24 meeting.

"I would go conservative on the project budgets, because the justice center has to be paid first," he said.

The July 24 meeting is set for 4 p.m. at the Administrative Complex.
