Baseball field to be lighted By DAVE
HAMRICK
Starr's Mill High School is one step closer to having a lighted baseball field. The Fayette County Commission approved a $15,000 grant to help get the fields lighted after a presentation from Greg Woodward, president of the Starr's Mill Dugout Club. With three teams getting ready for competition in early spring, when it gets dark around 5:30 p.m., the teams can't get enough practice time, Woodward said. In exchange for the county help, Woodward said, the fields will be made available to recreation teams in the summer. The county Board of Education also has granted $15,000 for the project, and the booster club will conduct a fund-raiser to fund the remainder of the $45,000 labor cost. Cooper Lighting Company is donating the lights, which will hold the cost far below what other schools in Fayette paid to light their baseball fields, commissioners said.
