PTC July 4th parade at 9 a.m. Wednesday

Peachtree City's annual July 4th festivities will again kick off with the parade, although it will begin one hour earlier than usual.

To avoid the heat and traffic problems, the parade was moved this year to 9 a.m., said city Public Information Officer Betsy Tyler. This is the only basic change in the schedule from years past, she added.

The Fire Department will hold its annual demonstration at Drake Field at 3 p.m., showing off ladder rescue trucks and how the jaws of life are used. The demonstration will conclude with the annual water battle at approximately 4 p.m.

The Peachtree Wind Ensemble will hold a holiday concert at City Hall Plaza beginning at 7 p.m., providing a musical prelude to the fireworks display which is scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m.

There will be no public parking at the Wyndham Conference Center, City Hall, or Picnic Park July 4, and no parking will be permitted along Ga. Highway 54. Parking will also be limited to one side of Battery Way during the fireworks.

The parade route begins at Booth Middle School, heading north on Peachtree Parkway, crossing Hwy. 54, turning onto Flat Creek Drive, crossing Hwy. 54 again and ending at City Hall.

During the parade, Peachtree Parkway will be two-directional on one side. Willowbend Road will be closed from Hip Pocket to Hwy. 54 at Flat Creek.

Parents are asked to watch their children carefully during the parade and keep them out of the street. Vehicles in the parade can have trouble seeing little ones dashing close by to get candy, city officials say.
