County, cities to decide SPLOST projects Tuesday By JOHN
THOMPSON
Coweta's municipalities will meet with Coweta County next Tuesday to try and finalize a list of Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax projects for the upcoming fall vote. County Administrator Theron Gay projects the tax could generate more than $98 million over the next five years, based on an 11 percent growth rate. Nearly $35 million would go towards building a new judicial center for the county. The remaining $63 million would be apportioned to the county and cities based on population. Coweta County would get $42 million and has earmarked such projects as a possible new library and a satellite library at Thomas Crossroads. The county also wants to place a lot of the funds toward road and bridge construction. Any funds the county places towards road construction will be matched 75 cents per dollar by the state DOT. The city of Newnan would get nearly $15 million over five years, while Senoia would receive $1.78 million. The special election for the SPLOST vote is Sept.18. The meeting between the cities and the county is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday morning at the County Administration Building in Newnan.
