The Senoia City Council is expected to decide Monday night whether to raise the salary of the mayor and council members.

The council has been debating the issue for several months and has conducted surveys of neighboring municipalities to determine salary structures.

Earlier this month, the council recommended changing the mayor's salary from $500 a month to $1,000 a month and the council members' salary from $100 to $200 a month.

If the council approves the increase, it would take effect next January after the mayor's race and two council races are decided in November.

In other news, the council will:

Examine a contract with interim Police Chief Julian Campbell and decide whether to hire him as the new chief.

Discuss upcoming projects for the fall special purpose local option sales tax vote. The council is expected to include storm water maintenance and road upgrades as two of the projects.

Set the qualifying dates for this fall's elections for two council seats and the mayor's job. Traditionally, the qualifying period has been the first week of September.

Examine the final plat for Ricky Hart's new subdivision, Hutchinson Cove, on Rockaway Road.

The council meets at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
