Fayette's best compost sought Once again the Fayette County Extension Office will conduct its annual composting contest. Area residents are invited to submit their finished compost to a panel of composting judges. Entries are due in the extension office by Tuesday, Sept. 18. Entrants can spend the rest of the summer perfecting their composting mixes. Last year, Carol Benjaminson of Tyrone submitted the winning entry. She swears that horse manure was the ingredient that distinguished her entry from the others. Entries will be displayed at the Fayette County Fair in September. If you haven't tried your hand at composting and wish to enter, phone the Fayette County Extension Office at 770-460-5730 ext. 5412 and the Master Composters will get you started. "We hope you visit the compost demonstration site in the Braelinn Shopping Center, behind the Kentucky Fried Chicken," said Sondra Edwards of the extension office. "This Peachtree City site explains how to compost and is open everyday to anyone interested in composting." The compost contest is open to Fayette County residents and you must call the Fayette County Extension Service to enter. Contest rules and requirements will be mailed to those who enter.
