"Daughters to Work Day" a hit at Clayton State

The recent "Take Our Daughters To Work Day" at Clayton College & State University was a big hit among both parents and children.

The theme Technology was chosen both in recognition of the university's place as Georgia's technology state university, and to emphasize to the daughters attending both the fun and practical applications of computers to their lives.

Among the daughters taking part was Tera Eichelberger of Peachtree City.

The day included learning experiences, most notably a series of workshops and a campus tour. Highlighting the workshops was a presentation by Martha Wicker of the Faculty Instructional Development Lab on burning CDs and techno music. Other highlights included Chris Menard leading a tour of the Division of Continuing Education's Mobile Learning Lab, the Office of Public Safety's techno-cop presentation, and Bates Canon and Sharon Miller of Student and Enrollment Services doing a presentation on the university's Linx Card and career services.

"The best part was getting a Linx card, like my mom's picture badge. I took it to school and showed everybody and they thought it was cool," said 10-year-old Tera, a fourth grade student at Braelinn Elementary School. Tera came with her mother, Lisa Wright Eichelberger, Ph.D., associate professor of nursing in the School of Health Sciences.

Clayton College & State University, a state university of the University System of Georgia, is in Morrow. About 10 percent of its student body comes from Fayette County.
