The city of Senoia will be getting a lot prettier very soon.

The City Council learned Monday night that the Downtown Development Authority has received a $10,000 grant from the state to spruce up its downtown business district.

The funds will be used to replace the city's aging planters made of crossties with brick planters featuring marble tops.

Additionally, the town will install an old-fashioned wooden stop sign at the intersection of Main and Seavy streets.

The council also learned that the project to continue placing the historic street lamps toward the Rockaway Road bridge is progressing.

Councilwoman Pam Youngblood said the city has already received commitments from a number of businesses and individuals for the light poles and added she believes citizens should see more of the poles being erected soon.

In other news from Monday's meeting, the council received a copy of budget amendments for this year's budget from Mayor Joan Trammell.

High on Trammell's priority list are new bulletproof vests for the police officers. She also wants the council to consider leasing new police vehicles and upgrading the department's aging radio equipment.
