Chamber backs new advisory committee By JOHN
THOMPSON
The Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce endorsed the bylaws creating the Coweta County Economic Development Advisory Committee. The action came at the regular monthly meeting of the organization's Board of Directors last week "The Chamber is pleased to announce its support of the revised bylaws for the advisory committee, said chamber board Chairman Rod Drake, area manager for Georgia Power Company in Newnan. "A great deal of time and effort went into creating the framework for the county's economic development program, and we are pleased that a version was developed that both the commissioners and the chamber can support. "The chamber stands ready to assist Coweta County in any way possible to promote economic development in the county, particularly in meeting the needs of our existing businesses and industries, which create the majority of new jobs in the county," he added. Under the bylaws approved by the Board of Directors, the chairman of the chamber's Board of Directors and the chairman of the Industry Committee would serve on the nine-member committee. The Coweta County Board of Commissioners will appoint five members, and the Coweta County Development Authority and Development Authority of Coweta County will each have two representatives. Last month, the chamber's board failed to endorse the proposal. But, at its meeting last week, the Coweta County Commission approved a revised draft of the bylaws, which were presented to the chamber board. In addition to its support of the Coweta County Economic Development Advisory Committee, the chamber will continue to support other economic development activities in the county, particularly the work of 21st Century Coweta, the Coweta County Development Authority, and the Development Authority of Coweta County.
