School system hires $70,000 public information officer

Residents wanting quick answers about school issues have a new source to call.

Dean Jackson, business editor for the Times Herald, will join the Coweta School System as director of public information with a $70,000 annual salary. Jackson is a Newnan High School graduate and long-time employee of the Times Herald.

Jackson joins the school system July 2 and will be the first full-time public information officer in the School System's history.

In addition to dealing with media requests, Jackson also plans to work closer with the county's business community to forge tighter bonds with the school system.

Jackson replaces Andy Denny, who served in the position for a number of years.

In other personnel matters;

Arnco-Sargent Elementary School Principal Chris Jennings has been named assistant superintendent for operations, a position unfilled during the 2000-2001 school year, and formerly held by Doug Bennett. Jennings will supervise activities in school construction, maintenance, transportation and school food services.

Karen Barker, instructional lead teacher at Poplar Road Elementary School, will replace Jennings as principal at Arnco-Sargent.

Walter Drake, assistant principal at Newnan High School, will be assistant principal and athletic director at East Coweta High.

Deborah Ford, assistant principal at Arnall Middle, will be assistant principal at Northgate High.

Scott Floyd, a teacher at Arnall Middle, will be assistant principal at Newnan High.

Jan Franks, a teacher at Canongate Elementary, will be assistant principal at Northgate High.

William Harrison, a teacher at Newnan High, will be assistant principal at Northgate High.

LaWanda Smith, instructional lead teacher at Moreland Elementary, will be assistant principal at Arnall Middle.

Rick Waggoner, a newcomer to Coweta, will be assistant principal at Madras Middle. Waggoner is currently a superintendent in South Point, Ohio, where he has also served as teacher, principal and assistant superintendent.
