New water agency sets first meeting

The inaugural meeting of the new Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the Hardin Amphitheater, Loudermilk Center for the Regional Community, 40 Courtland St., Atlanta.

Well-known developer and environmentalist Joel Cowan will chair the organization.

Purpose of the organization is to come up with regional strategies for managing water resources in the 18-county region around Atlanta, including Fulton County.

The Environmental Planning Division of the Atlanta Regional Commission will provide staff support.

The board includes government representatives from all counties in the district as well as citizen members representing not only the district, but upstream and downstream constituents as well.
