Road improvements on tap

Several South Fulton County roads will get a facelift with county dollars that will match state and federal funds.

Under agreements approved by the Fulton County Commission at its May 16 meeting, the county will provide 20 percent of the engineering and right-of-way acquisition costs for the projects. The remaining 80 percent of those costs, plus 100 percent of the construction costs, will be provided through federal funds administered through the Georgia Department of Transportation. The county portion totals $315,000.

South Fulton projects are:

Bridge improvements on Buffington Road at Morning Creek Tributary East in Union City.

Streetscape construction along Old National Highway from I-285 to Jonesboro Road (Ga. Highway 138).

Sidewalk and bike lanes along Fairburn Road from CSX Railroad Bridge to Garrison Drive.

Sidewalks and bike lanes along Welcome All from Will Lee Road to Buffington Road on Roosevelt Highway.

Funding for these projects is for the engineering design phase. Construction will occur later.
