Rico residents oppose home for teen prostitutes

Residents of the Rico community met last night to organize their thoughts for opposing a proposed juvenile home detention center in their neighborhood.

The center would be on Rico Road and house six juvenile prostitutes, said resident Anna Reid.

Reid said Kadee Blacksmith has mailed out 200 flyers to residents to inform them of what could be coming to their neighborhood.

"It would be one thing if it would be run by Fulton County, but this would be a private individual," Reid said.

Reid said many of the neighbors are concerned about security and the facility. Proponents claim the girls would be under 24-hour security to keep the people who prey on them from the neighborhood, but the residents aren't convinced.

"Who's going to watch them?" Reid said.

Residents have already organized one community meeting, and are figuring out their strategy for discussing it with Fulton County's Planning Committee.

The Planning Committee will discuss the home at the South Fulton Annex on Stonewall Tell Road at 7:30 p.m. June 19.
