Fayette mother to serve on state council

Gov. Roy Barnes appointed Gina L. Martin of Fayetteville to the Council On Maternal and Infant Health during a formal swearing in ceremony at the Capitol.

Martin joins 16 other appointees on the council who will serve for a four-year term.

"As a stay-at-home mother of two, I am overjoyed at this important opportunity to make a difference in the lives and well-being of other mothers and infants throughout the state of Georgia," said Martin.

Creation of the council was approved by the General Assembly and signed into law by Gov. Jimmy Carter in 1972. The council is made up of 17 persons and consists of an equal number of obstetricians, pediatricians, family practitioners and consumers. Its mission is to improve maternal and infant health throughout the state.
