Fayette leaders tapped for regional institute

At its monthly board meeting last week, the Atlanta Regional Commission announced the names of 56 public and private community leaders who have been selected to participate in the 12th Regional Leadership Institute.

Among those chosen are Chris Clark, president and CEO of the Fayette County Development Authority, and Elissa Hall, president of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce.

The RLI, cosponsored by the Regional Business Coalition and ARC, is an intensive week-long program that brings community leaders throughout the region together to study the dynamic forces shaping the region and to share and learn from each other's experiences. The RLI will be Sept. 30-Oct. 5 at Saint Simons Island, Ga.

"This leadership program is different because it brings together people who are leaders within their respective communities and instills in them a regional perspective," said Chick Krautler, director of ARC. "This type of regional vision and cooperation bodes well for the future of the Atlanta region."

Since its inception in 1991, nearly 600 leaders from the business, government and non-profit sectors have completed RLI's curriculum that presents the challenges and issues facing the Atlanta region, ranging from transportation and air quality to community revitalization and economic development.

Upon completion, participants are invited to join the Regional Leadership Foundation, which provides a continuing forum for community leadership and action in the region.
